Welcome to iCE - iHelp Controlled English

Controlled English (in any form) is designed to restrict the grammar and vocabulary of English to reduce or eliminate ambiguity and complexity.

At the highest level, it gives two major benefits:

  • improves readability for human readers (e.g. non-native speakers).
  • enables reliable machine analysis of the language (e.g. for translation).

Traditionaly, Controlled English has been used in the Aerospace industry and in large Technical Publications departments. With the increasing need for translation and for non-native speakers to understand English instructions, Controlled English is now relevant throughout Technical Publications.

iHelp Controlled English

iHelp has developed a flexible, customisable form of Controlled English which can be used by anyone to ensure consistency, ease of understanding and to reduce translation costs.

Lewis Caroll - The Walrus and the Carpenter

"When I use a word", Humpty Dumpty said in a rather scornful tone, "it means just what I chose it to mean, neither more nor less."
